April Update & Remake is out now!

Hey everyone!

Let me start with the obvious: It's been silent around The Farthest View (TFV to keep it short, or just "the game") for quite a while now.

But although I'll admit that communication on my end could need some improvement, I've not been lazy in the meantime.

So why the delay? I'll try to keep the summary short:

1. The main reason: I listened to feedback (conveniently just as I was about to finish the next update). Which eventually made me review the game in its current state. Which yet in turn lead to the decision to make some necessary changes. First step was giving the character artworks a long needed overhaul. In the end I basically redesigned all characters. Which  also meant, updating each and every graphic that somehow was related to a character.
While I was at it, I also rewrote large chunks of the narration and dialogue, added a couple of new scenes and streamlined the whole thing, fixed a (hopefully) a load of bugs, and so on. Needless to say, this took longer than expected.

2. The other reason: At some point during all this I was asked about integrating a multi language version. Naively, I accepted. That experiment ended with almost breaking the whole game. In the end I had to scrap everything and rebuild everything from an ancient backup (the take away lesson: make more frequent backups). That about as much work as you would suspect it to be.

3. Got sick in the middle of it. Kept me from working on the game for a while. I'm sorry about that.

4. The company I worked at for my dayjob imploded (figuratively), so I'd have to move resources from game development to searching for a new source of income (artists need to eat and pay rent too). That process is still ongoing.

I think that's everything? Guess the summary wasn't as short after all.

With all changes and updates and reworks in place, this is as much a continuation as a remake. So I take the liberty to officially call it a Remake (with capital R). Take it as a gift for Easter, if you celebrate. If not, take it as a gift for anthro bunny day.

No changelog this time, since it would just be listing half of the game.

Thanks for your patience and hope you enjoy!

PS: One final note: Your old savegames won't be working anymore after the update, so you will have to start a new game. Which you should do anyway. I promise, it's worth it.

PPS: Contrary to popular belief, creating a game like this involves both time and, sadly, money. So if you like this game, I'll more than appreciate your support on Patreon or Ko-fi. Or just spread the word.

Sorry to hear about your job and illness.  I hope your quality of life improves!  Thank you for continuing to work on this project!

Hey so I wanna know if you have an off script because my anti-virus quarantined this as a Trojan. I'm not risking it but I feel like I should send this comment in case something got on some of your software or someone else has this issue.

Hey! This is a known problem with Unity games (or indie games in general). Some antivirus software just blocks certain games, especially if they are not distributed by big name publishers. There is no general solution for every antivirus software, how to keep it from blocking the game is indivual to the software your using. But in any case I can assure you the game is safe to play.

will there be a mac support?

I just added a macOS version. However, I have no means to test it, so I can't guarantee for sure it will work.

I hope everything goes well for you. Please put yourself first, I for one know that the wait will always be worth it as long as the dev is doing well and taking care of themselves. 🐈

bloody shocked, and glad to see this beauty is not abandoned. occasionally pop up and give us some comments about how you are doing mate.

Holy shit, that's impressive
